"A picture can be an answer as well as a question but if you can't answer your question try to question your question. There are clever questions and stupid answers as well as stupid questions and clever answers. There can be questions without answers but no answers without questions. To be or not to be — that is the question. To see or not to see — that is an answer."

— Ernst Haas

There is no city which can show what man can make out of matter, but at the same time, reveal to us what matter can make out of man. Sitting in the subway or letting all the races the world pass us by on the street, we can read in the book of faces what stories are written about our fellow man. Every face has a secret and a good photographer is in search of it. In New York green means walk, but red means run. Don't stop, as to stop is a sin, an interruption holding up the flow. It is not a smiling city because a smile needs contemplation, but there is no time for that. Time is money, and money does not smile. New York can laugh hard but short, and all human emotions leading up to it are human, all so human. Expection, desperation, determination, pride, dreams, greed, loneliness are just a few on this human scale of ups and downs, harmony or disharmony. It's an open show, free of change, night and day. To capture within a moment the essence of this tragic comedy needs a heart, a mind, a soul, and a well reacting trigger finger to serve the eyes of the beholder.

The pictures of Todd Weinstein prove that he possesses all these qualities which are so necessary, when within images the outside reveals the inside, in this city called New York.
